Walks 6,7,8,9,10, and 11.

Walk 6

Tom Buidhe and Tolmount

Grade: Very Strenuous
Leader: Ben Robertson & Ian Pert, Mountain Leaders, Tim Caselton, Angus Council Ranger.
Length: 18km/11 miles, circular. Ascent: 1,000m.
Start: Glen Doll car park, 09.00 (bus from Kirriemuir at 08.15). Grid Ref: 283 761
Finish: Glen Clova, 16.00. Refreshments will be available at the Glen Clova Hotel. (Return bus to Kirriemuir at 17.15.)
Grade: Very Strenuous. Full hillwalking gear required. Please bring a packed lunch.

About the walk:

This walk takes in two Munros. The route heads out along Jock’s Road (the oldest Right of Way in Scotland). After 4 miles it leaves the path to climb over open ground to the summit of Tom Buidhe. A steady descent to the col then a climb to the top of Tolmount gives stunning views into Glen Callater. The route returns via Crow Craigies and Jock’s Road.

Walk 7

Glas Maol, Monega Hill to Glen Isla

Grade: Strenuous
Leader: Nick Cole & Mike McLaggan, Mountain Leaders, Gordon Snedden, Mountaineer.
Length: 12km/7.5miles, linear. Ascent: 500m.
Start: Glenshee Ski Area, 09.30 (bus from Kirriemuir at 08.30). Grid Ref: 139 779
Finish: Auchavan, Glenisla, 15.00 then refreshments at Glenisla Hotel. (Return bus to Kirriemuir at 16.30.)
Grade: Strenuous. Full hillwalking gear required. Please bring a packed lunch.

About the walk:

The walk starts at the Ski Centre car park and heads West to Meall Odhar, then to Glas Maol and Monega Hill. There are stunning views into Caenlochan and Canness Glens. An interesting descent south down the ridgeback of Monega Hill leads to the River Isla and the road head at Auchavan.

Walk 8 Glen Clova to Glen Esk Grade: Very Strenuous
Leader: Andy Malcolm, Stalker, Dalhousie Estate, Kevin Bickerstaffe, Mountain Leader, Lisa King, Angus Council Ranger.
Length: 16km/10 miles linear. Ascent: 800m.
Start: Glen Clova Hotel, 09.15(bus from Kirriemuir at 08.30). Grid Ref: 327 730
Finish: Glen Esk car park, 16.15. Refreshments will be available at The Retreat. (Return bus to Kirriemuir at 17.30.)

About the walk:

The walk climbs steeply out of Glen Clova to pass above Loch Brandy, then follows the old right of way to Green Hill (870m), Muckle Cairn and Wester Skuiley (736m) before descending to Inchgrundle and finally walking beside the attractive Loch Lee to the head of Glen Esk.

Walk 9 Glen Clova to Glen Lethnot Grade: Very Strenuous
Leader: Colin Sinclair, Mountain Leader, Jerry Evans, Perth & Kinross Ranger, Pete Lunnon, Angus Council Ranger.
Length: 18km/11 miles linear. Ascent: 820m.
Start: Glen Clova Hotel, 09.30 (bus from Kirriemuir at 09.00). Grid Ref: 327 730
Finish: Waterhead car park, 16.30. (Return bus to Kirriemuir at 16.30.)
Grade: Very Strenuous. Full hillwalking gear required. Please bring a packed lunch.

About the walk:

A steep climb from the Clova Hotel to picturesque Loch Brandy then on to Green Hill. Good views across the plateau to Lochnagar down to Glen Clova. The route continues across the tops to The Goet (Corbett) and descends via Black Shank to the Sheiling of Saughs in Glen Lethnot where the Battle of Saughs took place. Some rough walking involved.

Walk 10 Glen Prosen Grade: Strenuous
Leader: Hector MacLean, Balnaboth Estate, Rosie McKenzie, Mountain Leader, Norman Greig,
Angus Council Ranger.
Length: 14km/9 miles, circular. Ascent: 585m.
Start: Glen Prosen village, 10.00 (bus from Kirriemuir, 09.30). Grid Ref: 327 658
Finish: Glen Prosen village, 15.00. Refreshments available at the Village Hall. (Return bus to Kirriemuir at 16.00.)
Grade: Strenuous. Full hillwalking gear required. Please bring a packed lunch.

About the walk:

From Glen Prosen village the walk follows a track to Glentairie then climbs to the ridge of Red Cairn and Cairn of Barns (651m), with wide views. The route then contours to Mount Bouie (585m) before descending alongside forestry and returning down the glen via Craigiemeg and Balnaboth policies.

Walk 11 Glen Doll Forest & The Dounalt Riverside Grade: Easy
Leader: Ken Slater & Graham Christer , Angus Council Rangers.
Length: 8km/5 miles, circular.
Start: Glen Doll car park, 10.30. (bus from Kirriemuir at 09.45). Grid Ref: 283 761
Finish: Glen Doll car park, 15.00. Refreshments will be available at the Glen Clova Hotel. (Return bus to Kirriemuir at 16.30.)
Grade: Easy. Boots required. Please bring a packed lunch.
Limit: 30.
About the walk:

Good tracks and paths lead through the forest to the head of Glen Doll and Jock’s Road. The walk will continue to the forest edge where it crosses the bridge and returns via the opposite bank. The area is noted for its Alpine flora and wildlife as well as its social history.

Friday’s Evening Event - Barbecue with Traditional Music

Your hosts, Graham and Gail Riley of the Lochside Lodge & Roundhouse Restaurant, Lintrathen, invite you to an evening of traditional music provided by ‘The Session Band’. Graham and Gail are the 2004 winners of the prestigious ‘Taste of Scotland Thistle Award’ for their restaurant. Transport from Kirriemuir to Lintrathen at 19.15, returning at 23.00.

Cost: £15 per person. Payable to VisitScotland Angus and Dundee in advance.
