Edzell Castle is a late fifteenth or early 16th century tower house visited by James VI and Mary Queen of Scots and used by Cromwell’s troop as a garrison. Much of the castle itself is now in ruins - for most
visitors it is the survival of the magnificent walled garden that is the glory of Edzell. The garden or ‘Plesaunce’, incorporates in its 17th century design
superb heraldic and symbolic sculpted panels unique in Scotland.
