Whatever
type of fishing you prefer, you can find it in Angus &
Dundee. You can fish from sandy beaches or rocky cliff bottoms.
You can take an organised day trip on a fishing boat, hire
a small boat on a reservoir or loch, fish from the bank ....
or you can get those waders on and get stuck into some fly
fishing for salmon, trout, or whichever fish you prefer to
catch!
At a number of locations, you needn't even bring
tackle - just collect some as you go in, and return it when
your day is finished! If you prefer to use your own tackle,
that's fine too - and if you need to get some new equipment,
there are a number of specialist shops in the area.
Brechin, Edzell and Montrose, are three of the
northernmost towns of Angus and are ideally situated for fishing
the Rivers North Esk and South Esk, West Water, Loch Lee,
and of course the beach fishing on the coast. The rivers are
noted for excellent salmon and trout fishing between February
and October. Arbroath is the main sea-angling centre, with
a number of charter boats operating from the harbour.
Brown trout fishing is available on Lunan
Water and Rescobie Loch, by Forfar. Dundee itself, situated
on the north of the River Tay estuary, is surrounded by some
great fishing, with a shoreline providing convenient sea-fishing
for sea trout and flatfish. Top-class rainbow and brown trout
fishing is available from a number of reservoirs and fisheries
within a stone's throw from the City, and two coarse fishing
venues nearby make Dundee the city of angling discovery.
