Towns and Villages>>>Broughty Ferry
Broughty FerryFour miles to the east of Dundee city centre lies the seaside suburb of Broughty Ferry. Its fine seafront esplanade and sweeping sands provide the perfect place for a relaxing stroll or a quiet picnic.

Once regarded as the "richest square mile in Europe" - because it was home to the wealthy jute barons who built Dundee's textile fortunes - it can trace its origins back to the 15th century fisherfolk who built their homes around the harbour close to Broughty Castle.

Today, the castle is home to a fascinating museum, following the fortunes of Broughty Ferry and its association with fisherfolk and the whaling industry.

Look out on Ne'ers Day (1 January) for the annual Dook, by hardy swimmers of all ages as they make a traditional crossing of the icy Tay to Tayport, or the annual summer gala, in July, which heralds a week of fun events for all the family.

The discerning shopper will find individual boutiques, art and craft shops, fine eateries and coffee shops, set out in the spacious streets.
