Letham village was founded in the 18th century to initially provide homes for farm workers, and latterly for textile workers, living and working in the area. Letham's Victorian Market is a summer highlight.
The nearby Dunnichen Hill witnessed one of the most decisive battles of Scottish history in the Battle of Dunnichen, where the Picts and the Northumbrians clashed in the 7th century. The battle saw the defeat and death of the King of the Angles and helped to assure Scotland's freedom as an independent country, free from Northumbrian domination.
