No visit to Angus and Dundee would be complete without seeing the sleepy and picturesque village of Glamis, where its 18th century cottages make this an outstanding conservation area. In the village, the Angus Folk Museum provides a vivid insight into how the simple lives led by the rural workforce contrast greatly with the lives of those who lived in Glamis Castle - the childhood home of the late Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, and birthplace of her second daughter, Princess Margaret. Perhaps one of Scotland's most romantic fairy-tale castles, and the legendary setting for Shakespeare's play "Macbeth" Glamis Castle, is open to visitors through much of the year. Today, it is also the family home of the Earls of Strathmore. |
